Assessments provide educators with valuable information needed to make decisions and plan effective instruction to help students stay on track to meet grade level skills and content standards as outlined by the state of Oregon.
Oregon’s statewide assessment system (OSAS) includes summative annual tests administered by subject and grade. Oregon public schools currently test students in Mathematics and English/Language Arts in grades 3-8 and grade 11, and in Science in grades 5, 8, and 11. For more information about these assessments, please visit the Smarter Balanced website. Additional required assessments include an extended assessment for students with special needs, an English language proficiency assessment for English learners, and an assessment to evaluate incoming Kindergarten students’ skills in approaches to learning as well as early literacy and math.
In addition to statewide assessments, CSD participates in other assessments including national programs like the PSAT as well as formative and interim assessments that provide students with feedback on their academic progress. Please contact your student’s school or the Director of Student Services if you have questions about any specific assessments.
Parents, guardians, and adult students can choose to opt out of the OSAS Math and English Language Arts assessments. Information about the testing windows and opt-out forms can be found below.
