Keeping Creswell Schools Healthy, Safe and Ready for Learning

Creswell School District is committed to providing safe, healthy learning environments for our students, staff and community.

Oregon’s Healthy and Safe Schools (HASS) requirements help school districts identify, monitor and address potential environmental health hazards in school facilities. Creswell School District’s HASS Plan addresses environmental health and safety practices related to lead in drinking water, lead-based paint, asbestos, radon, integrated pest management and carbon monoxide detection.

This page provides access to Creswell School District’s HASS Plan, Annual Statements, environmental testing information, related plans and other records.

We will continue to update this page as new testing, reports and other information become available.

HASS Documents & Annual Statements

Healthy & Safe Schools Plan

The Creswell School District Healthy and Safe Schools Plan provides an overview of how the District addresses environmental health hazards in facilities where students and staff are regularly present.

Annual HASS Statements

School districts are required to complete and publish a HASS Annual Statement each year. The Annual Statement confirms the status of the District’s HASS Plan, required testing, posting of test results, website information and any major remediation activities from the previous school year. Annual Statements are due to the Oregon Department of Education by June 1 each year.

Environmental Health & Safety

Creswell School District’s HASS program addresses several environmental health and safety areas. Select the sections below to learn more and access current plans, testing results and related records.

Lead in Drinking Water

Creswell School District takes steps to identify and address elevated levels of lead in water used for drinking and food preparation.

The District’s HASS Plan requires testing of applicable drinking water fixtures and establishes a testing schedule for District facilities.

Current testing results will be posted here as they are finalized.

Previous Testing and Corrective Actions

Creswell School District previously tested drinking water fixtures throughout its schools and facilities. In one round of testing, 97 fixtures were sampled. Three fixtures at Creswell High School initially showed elevated lead levels on first-draw samples.

The District replaced two fixtures and decommissioned one nonessential sink. Follow-up testing of the replaced fixtures showed normal levels.

Testing information will be updated as required testing is completed and results are available.

Radon

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter buildings from the soil. Because radon cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, testing is necessary to determine whether elevated levels are present.

Creswell School District maintains a Radon Testing Plan that outlines how school facilities are tested for elevated radon levels. The District’s plan calls for testing frequently occupied rooms that are in contact with the soil or located above a basement or crawlspace.

About Radon Testing

Radon testing is conducted using approved testing devices and procedures. The District’s Radon Testing Plan describes the testing locations, timing, equipment and procedures used to obtain reliable results.

Integrated Pest Management

Creswell School District uses an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to manage pests while minimizing risks to students, staff and visitors.

Our IPM program emphasizes prevention, monitoring and appropriate responses, with pesticide use considered only when necessary after other strategies have been unsuccessful.
