Home » New OHA Announcement | CSD40 Update

Dear CSD Families,

In my last email regarding Oregon Health Authority (OHA)’s mask mandate changes, I promised to keep you updated as I receive news. Yesterday, OHA announced that, due to improving hospitalization rates and declining transmission figures, the COVID mask mandate for Oregon schools and all public indoor spaces will now be lifted on March 19 instead of March 31. At that time, decisions about whether face coverings will be required or optional in schools can be made, in partnership with local health authorities, at the local district level.

As you can imagine, modifications to current face covering rules create significant operational changes in school settings; guidance governing these changes is still being processed by OHA and Oregon Department of Education (ODE). This includes evaluating and developing practical updates to safety protocols for quarantining, contact tracing, and much more. As further guidance and updates to the Ready Schools, Safe Learners Resiliency Framework are shared by OHA and ODE, I will continue to keep you informed.

At the present time, the current statewide indoor mask requirement continues to remain in effect.

As we work through the implications and await updated guidance, it’s important to me to understand the comfort level of our community regarding this change. Be looking for a survey next week.
