Dear Families,
Below are a few updates and timely topics!
PICTURE RE-TAKES
Wednesday, October 23rd is picture retakes in the library. Please let your child’s teacher know if you want your child to re-take their picture. If they were absent when pictures were originally taken they can take them Wednesday.
HALLOWEEN
It has been the tradition for Creslane Elementary School students to wear appropriate costumes to school for Halloween. This year, it is our intention to maintain the positive and fun spirit of this event. While students are not required to wear costumes on Halloween, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:
- Costumes must not be too scary or inappropriate for the school environment. Please no blood, gory or grotesque costumes. Costume accessories that are deemed dangerous or similar to weaponry are not permitted.
- Face painting should be applied at home and should be minimally applied (like whiskers, freckles, eye make up, etc.) so that students’ faces are recognizable. Face paint can also get very uncomfortable and messy for children to wear the entire day so in some cases less face paint can be a better idea.
- Students can wear masks during the harvest party. For the rest of the day faces need to be recognizable. To keep kids safe costumes should not impede their vision or ability to participate in school activities.
- Finally, all costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code. One example is: students must wear shoes that are appropriate for school. Please understand that these guidelines are put in place to ensure the safety of all our students. Wearing a costume is considered a school privilege. Students who come to school wearing something inappropriate will be asked to change into something available, or have to call home for clothing.
Students are allowed to wear their costumes during the course of the day, but the costume must not interfere with the student’s duties and responsibilities, both in and out of class. Plan to wear costumes that are comfortable.
VOLUNTEERING
We appreciate all our volunteers; our school wouldn’t be the same without all the extra helping hands! People who are interested in volunteering at Creslane need to fill out a background check and be approved prior to being in classrooms or going on field trips. This can take up to two weeks so please plan ahead. Once approved, volunteers are cleared for five years. Our office will do their best to contact parents who are coming close to expiring to avoid a lapse in volunteering.
PARKING LOT: Morning Drop Off
After the buses finish the morning routes the bus lane is open as a second student drop off lane for other motorists. Please pull forward to the cone so more than one student can unload while not blocking the cross walk.
Please say your goodbyes quickly so we can get all of our students into school on time.
PARKING LOT: After-school pick up
Remember to stay in your vehicle when waiting in the parent pick-up line along the curb. When you get out and the traffic begins to move you will hold up the line.
We are seeing families who are not using the crosswalks. This is not only a safety concern it also impacts the flow of traffic when drivers have to stop for pedestrians in multiple spots. Students are not to be crossing through traffic to enter a vehicle unless they are using the crosswalks. Please help model this behavior. Ultimately we want to promote safe habits by using the crosswalks even if it adds a few extra steps.
CONFERENCES
Fall conferences are an opportunity to sit with your child’s teacher to discuss student’s strengths and opportunities for growth this coming year. Teachers want to meet with every parent and will do what they can to accommodate your schedule. We know that many parents need to meet in an evening time slot. Because of this, teams have worked together to identify evening slots where they can meet with parents. If you are unable to make your fall conference please let teachers know as soon as it is known that you wont be available to meet as planned. Teachers will re-schedule you for the next available opportunity. We look forward to partnering with you!
